Day 1
Arrival in Luang Prabang
Arrival in Luang Prabang by plane. Meeting with guide and driver and transfer to the hotel. Free time.
In late afternoon ascent of Phou Si Mountain to observe the whole city bathed by the last day of golden lights
Luang Prabang, the former capital of the Kingdom of a Million Elephants, was a river port on the Mekong River, 210 km upstream of Vientiane. Embedded in a mountainous environment, the climate is cooler and the difficulty of access has allowed this city to keep his original and typical appearance. Sparsely populated, about 70 000 inhabitants, it is open to tourism since the 1990s and is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Overnight in hotel.
Day 2
Luang Prabang - historical heritage
Early in the morning, observation Millennium Buddhist ritual Buddhist monks dressed in saffron robes silently through the old town to beg food as did the Buddha. Back to the hotel for breakfast.
Discover the fresh food market Phousi, true mosaic of colors and scents, ethnological museum (closed on Monday) founded in 2006 whose purpose is to promote understanding of different lifestyles and traditions of the fabulous ethnic mosaic form the Lao people. If time permits, explore the UNESCO side will continue during this late morning. Lunch at local restaurant.
The afternoon exploration of the most beautiful temples and museums. First visit the National Museum, which is the former royal palace built in 1904 under the French protectorate (Museum closed on Tuesdays), Xieng Thong Temple, built in 1560, certainly the most beautiful and richest temple the city. Transition to Wat Aham and Wat Visoun, which are the oldest temples in Luang Prabang. If time permits, visit other temples historic area filled some of the finest architectural jewels of the country.
Return to the hotel. Evening free time. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3
Luang Prabang - Pak Ou - Pakbeng
After breakfast, embark on a small motor boat for a nice ride on the Mekong. Halfway stop to visit the village of Ban Xan Hai specialized in the production of rice wine - the most popular Laotian drink. Continue cruise to the Pak Ou caves which are the most famous Buddhist site near Luang Prabang. Exploration of all these caves loaded legends with their many statues of Buddha. Lunch at Pak Ou before taking the cruise to Pakbeng. Stops will be provided for village visits and observation of nature. Arrival in Pakbeng around 18:00. For those who wish to visit this small village, commercial hub where goods and people to and from Vientiane, Thailand, Burma or China still circulating. Overnight at hotel.
Day 4
Pakbeng - Muang La
After breakfast, crossing the Mekong River by canoe to reach the Mahout elephant camp. Ride on elephant back for about two o'clock in the jungle. Back to the hotel for lunch.
Starting Muang district in the province of La Oudom Xay, a road along the river Nam Beng. After 4:30 drive (counting stops), arriving in the center of north Laos. Mountain scenery and ethnic minorities are two major attractions of this part of the country.
Check ecologically Muang La resort in the late afternoon. Installation and discover places. Guests can relax in a bath of hot water naturally salty, specially designed to 3m height, or in a traditional Lao sauna. The resort also has a "sala" massage. Night and dinner at Muang La resort.
Day 5
Hiking in the area of Muang La
After breakfast, transfer by road to Pak Khai, this pleasant 15mn will transfer through magnificent views of the Nam Pak River, rice terraces and many small villages.
From Pak Khai, hiking through forests, villages of ethnic minorities, small rivers, meeting with farmers working in rice fields, watching how they cultivate the land, fish. Tour ends at 2:30 p.m.
Resumed the road to return to the resort where we arrive late afternoon ( 17.30) . Night and dinner at Muang La resort.
Day 6
Muang La - Muang Khoa - Nong Khiao
Morning departure to the Muang Khoa along the main road that leads to Phongsaly Dien Bien Phu in Vietnam. On the way, visit a Khmu village and a local market where residents come to sell their products from the forest. After 40km, break - Pak Nam Noy, continuation of the road through green hills, along the Nam Pak River gold mining is practiced a little, the women took over men, their colorful fabrics animate these shores tired. Arrival at Muang Khoa late morning departure for a cruise on the Nam Ou River, a stop for lunch on the banks of white sand. (Picnic lunch)
The cruise continues to the village of Nong Khiao. This village, situated on both banks of the Nam Ou, is surrounded by hills and limestone mountains forming a particularly beautiful natural setting. Overnight at hotel.
Day 7
Nong Khiao - Luang Prabang
Before returning to Luang Prabang, visit one of the caves where the villagers took refuge during the colonial wars. Back on the road, arriving in Luang Prabang for lunch.
Afternoon free to stroll around the city. It is also possible to organize a trip to the waterfalls of Kuang Si, about thirty miles from the city. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
