Kompong Chnang

Located on the banks of the Tonle Sap River, a few dozen kilometers from the Grand Lake Tonle Sap, Kampong Chhnang is a small underdeveloped town, with many houses on stilts. It is accessible from Phnom Penh either by road (eighty kilometers, towards Battambang) or by the river. Travelers using the waterway Phnom Penh- Siem Reap there can also stop and discover the Cham communities, Austronesia group of Muslims, descendants of the kingdoms of Champa. The city has no monuments to visit, or special attractions, but the authentic character of the surrounding area is undeniably gigantic fishing villages, crafts (pottery in particular), Khmer campaigns eternal: families harvesting, transplanting, young shepherds and their herds of black buffalo...

It is therefore advisable to go in Kompong Chhnang, whether you travel by road to Battambang or by Siem Reap river. It will, somehow, an inner journey to immerse yourself in the rural Khmer, founder of the Angkor civilization pillar.
