Day 1
Arrival in Luang Prabang
Arrival in Luang Prabang by plane( from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or Bangkok), you will be picked up and transferred to the hotel.
In the late afternoon ascent of Phou Si Mountain to observe the whole city bathed by the last day of golden lights( If the arrival flight is late, this climb will be moved to the program Day 2 ).
Luang Prabang, the former capital of the Kingdom of a Million Elephants, was a river port on the Mekong River, 210 km upstream of Vientiane. Embedded in a mountainous environment, the climate is cooler and the difficulty of access has allowed this city to keep his original and typical appearance. Sparsely populated, about 70 000 inhabitants, it is open to tourism since the 1990s and is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
Day 2
Luang Prabang - historical heritage
The first light of day observation Millennium Buddhist ritual Buddhist monks dressed in saffron robes silently through the old town to beg food as did the Buddha. Back to the hotel for breakfast.
Discover the fresh food market Phousi, true mosaic of colors and scents, ethnological museum (closed on Monday) founded in 2006 whose purpose is to promote understanding of different lifestyles and traditions of the fabulous ethnic mosaic form the Lao people. If time permits, explore the UNESCO side will continue during this late morning. Lunch at local restaurant.
The afternoon exploration of the most beautiful temples and museums. First, you visit the National Museum, which is the former royal palace built in 1904 under the French protectorate (Museum closed on Tuesdays), Xieng Thong Temple, built in 1560, certainly the most beautiful and richest temple the city. Transition to Wat Aham and Wat Visoun, which are the oldest temples in Luang Prabang. If time permits, visit other temples historic area filled some of the finest architectural jewels of the country.
Return to the hotel. Evening free time. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3
Luang Prabang - immersion
In the morning, 30 minutes by car to the Nam Khan River.
Immersion with elephants, 2h walk with them in the jungle in order to understand their interaction with the jungle. Participation in their meals and wash in the river. Breakfast, short walk in jungle 30', then visit a Khmu village.
The Khmu are Austroasiatic(Mon - Khmer). 450,000 in Laos, endemic population, patrilineal culture, sometimes called P'u Ling( Men top) or Kha Khmu(Kha correspond to wild men, wood) by Lao, Khmu generally establish their villages along rivers or hillsides. They descend from the Khmu kingdoms whose territories once stretched across the northern Laos and part of the Annamite mountain range.
Around noon, drive back to Luang Prabang
In the afternoon, you will drive to a country village to discover the world of rice. Education after noon during which the children will be explaining the main stages of the life of rice: the choice of grain sowing, transplanting of the harvest, threshing pestle storage. Various participatory workshops are offered, depending on the season: planting a rice field, close, planting ...
Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 4
Luang Prabang
Morning departure from the hotel for 2 hours canoeing on the Mekong to a Lao village where you'll immerse yourself in the middle of a village of traditional potters of Laos.
Arriving at the village, presentation between Laos and visitors, and participation in the early stages of creating a pot: choice of ground, transportation, storage, introduction to the use of a drum. Lunch in the village.
The afternoon is devoted to a trip to the waterfalls of Tad Kwang Si, 30 km south of Luang Prabang by road condition crossing Hmong villages. The waterfall which forms many pools is a particularly nice place for nature lovers.Return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon. Overnight at hotel.
Day 5
Luang Prabang - Nong Khiao
Morning departure by car to Nong Khiao. On the way visit Lao and Hmong village.
Nong Khiao is in a karst region among the most outstanding Southeast Asian training: large white cliffs with strange silhouettes crowned jungle, rice paddies seem to emerge. The town of Nong Khiao, located on both banks of the Nam Ou, is surrounded by hills and rocky mountains forming an exceptionally beautiful natural setting.
After lunch, two options:
Option 1: Depart for a jungle hike to a waterfall. Return to your hotel. Free time for you to stroll through the village and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the place.
Option 2: 3h bike track in limestone mountains, along a melancholic track. Crossing several Lao villages.Night in a resort Nong Khiao.
Day 6
Nong Khiao - Luang Prabang
After breakfast, boat trip to the Nam Ou River to where it flows into the Mekong. This memorable cruise in an exotic decor will give you the opportunity to observe village life at the water's edge. Before arriving in Luang Prabang, stopping at the famous Pak Ou caves which are the most famous Buddhist site near Luang Prabang. Exploration of all these caves loaded legends with their many statues of Buddha. They are home to hundreds of Buddhas filed by Laos over the centuries.
Arrival at Luang Prabang in the late afternoon. Transfer to your hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 7
Luang Prabang - Vang Vieng
After breakfast, transfer by road to Vang Vieng (230 km - 6 hours). The scenery of the route are spectacular: the dense mountain contrast with the plains and rice fields.
Arrival in the afternoon in Vang Vieng, a town located along the Nam Song River, dominated by an imposing limestone massif pierced with caves and covered with jungle and bush on the heights. Installation at the hotel.
Late afternoon: pirogue Nam Song River to admire the greenery bordering the banks, in a setting similar to Halong Bay Vietnam land formed towering rocky peaks that stand middle of the landscape.
Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 8
Vang Vieng - Vientiane
After breakfast, departure by car to Vientiane( about 3 hours). Vientiane, the city of the moon, is a city on a human scale charming falling asleep on the left bank of the Mekong. Old colonial villas, wide shady avenues, small houses give the capital a peaceful atmosphere.
The afternoon is spent to the visit of the most remarkable monuments of the capital of Laos: Wat Sisaket, built in 1818 in the Siamese style, with its thousands of Buddha statues, the museum of Wat Phra Keo Ho built on the model of a former royal temple, housing various objects Laotian and Khmer sacred art, Wat That Luang, religious monument of the first importance in Laos, residence supreme leader of Laotian Buddhism. Also visit the Arc de Triomphe and La Porte victory before returning to the hotel. Possibility of dining in a restaurant on the banks of the Mekong.
Day 9
Vientiane - Phou Khau KhouayPark
After breakfast, short visit of Khua Din market where farmers come to sell their products in a playful and colorful atmosphere.
Then going to the park Phou Khau Khouay east of Vientiane(1:30 drive) for a hike in the park. Walking tour and boat (rainy season), picnicking, swimming, discovering ... orchids are the main activities of this hike to 3:00 p.m. end of the afternoon. Back to Vientiane late in the day.
