Day 1
Arrival in Luang Prabang
Arrival in Luang Prabang by plane. Meeting with guide and driver and transfer to the hotel. Free time.
In late afternoon ascent of Phou Si Mountain to observe the whole city bathed by the last day of golden lights
Luang Prabang, the former capital of the Kingdom of a Million Elephants, was a river port on the Mekong River, 210 km upstream of Vientiane. Embedded in a mountainous environment, the climate is cooler and the difficulty of access has allowed this city to keep his original and typical appearance. Sparsely populated, about 70 000 inhabitants, it is open to tourism since the 1990s and is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Overnight in hotel.
Day 2
Luang Prabang - historical heritage
Early in the morning, observation Millennium Buddhist ritual Buddhist monks dressed in saffron robes silently through the old town to beg food as did the Buddha. Back to the hotel for breakfast.
Discover the fresh food market Phousi, true mosaic of colors and scents, ethnological museum (closed on Monday) founded in 2006 whose purpose is to promote understanding of different lifestyles and traditions of the fabulous ethnic mosaic form the Lao people. If time permits, explore the UNESCO side will continue during this late morning. Lunch at local restaurant.
The afternoon exploration of the most beautiful temples and museums. First visit the National Museum, which is the former royal palace built in 1904 under the French protectorate (Museum closed on Tuesdays), Xieng Thong Temple, built in 1560, certainly the most beautiful and richest temple the city. Transition to Wat Aham and Wat Visoun, which are the oldest temples in Luang Prabang. If time permits, visit other temples historic area filled some of the finest architectural jewels of the country.Return to the hotel. Evening free time. Overnight at hotel.
Day 3
Luang Prabang - Pak Ou - drop Kuangsi - Luang Prabang
The morning is spent to a trip upstream the Mekong River to the Pak Ou caves.
After breakfast, embark on a small motor boat for a cruise during which we can observe the entire life near the water. A halfway stop visit to the village of Ban Xan Hai specialized in the production of rice wine - the most popular Laotian drink. Continue cruise to the Pak Ou caves which are the most famous Buddhist site near Luang Prabang. Exploration of all these caves loaded legends with their many statues of Buddha. Pak Ou lunch before heading back to return to Luang Prabang by late morning.
The afternoon is devoted to a trip to the waterfalls of Tad Kwang Si, 30 km south of Luang Brabang by a good road that runs through Hmong villages. The waterfall which forms many pools is a particularly nice place for nature lovers. Return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon. Overnight at hotel.
Day 4
Luang Prabang - Phonsavan
After breakfast, depart for the Xieng Khouang province with the city as a destination Phonsavan. The road passes through five hours of beautiful mountain scenery and ethnic minority villages. Xieng Khouang suffered heavy U.S. bombing during the Vietnam War, the province is populated mainly by Laos, the Khmu and Hmong.
Check in hotel in Phonsavan end of the day.
Day 5
Discovering the Plain of Jars
After visiting the central market in Phonsavan, transfer south of the city to visit the Plain of Jars the origin and function remain unknown. Several hundred jars sandstone exposed on the ground since, under certain assumptions , 1st century BC
Lunch at a local restaurant then continue exploration in the afternoon Muang Khun, the ancient capital in ruins, about 40 km from Phonsavan. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Free time.
The Plain of Jars is located on the plateau of Tran Ninh, part of a large mountain range covering the whole northern Laos, northern Annam Cordillera. The area is dotted with groups of large stone jars, enigmatic subject of many legends. With the Province of Xekong, Xieng Khouang was the most bombed province in Laos, theater tougher battles and scars of war are always found in the form of craters, broken jars or sometimes bombs defused large tonnage by office pillars, fences in the countryside, decoration in the streets of Phongsavan.
Day 6
Phonsavan - Vang Vieng
Road to Vang Vieng, seven hours along one of the most scenic roads, wild and mysterious throughout Asia. Arrive late afternoon in Vang Vieng, a small town on a bend of the Nam Song River, dominated by an imposing limestone massif pierced with caves and covered with jungle and bush on its heights, in a region famous for its caves, waterfalls, cliffs and limestone sugar loaves.
Installation at the hotel and little boat ride on the Nam Song River (about 1:00). Overnight in Vang Vieng
Day 7
Vang Vieng
The morning is devoted to visiting the cave of Tham Chang, best known in the area, then hike to villages Deang Tai and Souay , populated by ethnic minorities.
Free after noon. Option biking, kayaking, river descent giant buoy to caving. Overnight at hotel.
Day 8
Vang Vieng - Vientiane
After breakfast, departure by car to Vientiane( about 3 hours). Vientiane, the city of the moon, is a city on a human scale charming falling asleep on the left bank of the Mekong. Old colonial villas, wide shady avenues, small houses give the capital a peaceful atmosphere.
The afternoon is spent to the visit of the most remarkable monuments of the capital of Laos: Wat Sisaket, built in 1818 in the Siamese style, with its thousands of Buddha statues, the museum of Wat Phra Keo Ho built on the model of a former royal temple, housing various objects Laotian and Khmer sacred art, Wat That Luang, religious monument of the first importance in Laos, residence supreme leader of Laotian Buddhism. Also visit the Arc de Triomphe and La Porte victory before returning to the hotel. Possibility of dining in a restaurant on the banks of the Mekong.
Day 9
Vientiane - Pakse - Bolaven
After breakfast, you will take the morning flight to Pakse. Pick up at the airport by our guide and transfer to South Tadlo resort accommodation that is right next to the impressive waterfall of the same name. Check in hotel.
Walk or elephant back to visit ethnic minority villages around the site. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 10
Bolaven Plateau - Wat Phou - Don Daeng Island
After breakfast, continue to explore the Bolaven Plateau. Transfer firstly in villages Kôkphoung and Tai - Pong, populated Ta Oi and K -Lac with their houses on stilts. Visit these villages before continuing the loop road that plateau. Before joining the city of Pakse lunch, visit a tea plantation, the craft villages( basketry, blacksmith).
After lunch at Pakse, transfer car to the famous site Vat Phou Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001. This Temple older than the cities of Angkor but much smaller exudes a magical atmosphere. Visit the site and its museum.
By late afternoon, embark on a small boat. Crossing the Mekong to join Don Daeng, a small island in the middle of the river, opposite the mountain Phou Bassak. Would recommend to travelers who like quiet, peaceful scenery, rest and cycling. Overnight at hotel or homestay.
Day 11
Don Daeng Island - Don Khone Island
After breakfast, bike ride 2 hours (half of the island). The bike path through the rice fields, villages, forests.
After lunch at a local, through the left arm of the Mekong to the road towards the extreme south Laos, known as the region of 4,000 islands. For about 2 hours through a large basin formed by the Mekong with rice paddies and villages inhabited by Lao Loum.
A Nakasong, boat on a small boat crossing an arm of the Mekong. After about 30 minutes by boat, arriving on Don Khone Island, the most beautiful of the entire region.
Installation in a hotel next to the river.
End of the free afternoon option of a walk or bike ride through the village under the shade of coconut palms, or simply enjoy a drink in a café to contemplate the sunset over the Mekong.Overnight at hotel.
Day 12
Don Khone Island - Basin water shower dolphins
Boat trip to the largest Asia South East waterfalls. Khone Phapeng & Li Phi were the main obstacles that have thwarted the French in their efforts to open up the Mekong River to navigation. Approximately 50-100 Irrawaddy Dolphins (freshwater) live in this area. Visit the small railway and colonial bridge built by the French to be able to tour the waterfalls. Then return to the island in the late afternoon.
Day 13
Don Khone Island - Pakse Departure
Back to Pakse (30 minute boat ride and a 2 hour drive). Transfer to the airport for departure flight.
